The Alachua County Medical Society (ACMS), is a professional non-profit organization representing the physicians in Alachua, Columbia, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, Levy, Suwannee, and Union Counties – including practicing, retired, medical residents and medical school students. The ACMS is the local affiliate of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA).
Membership in the ACMS supports quality medical care for every resident in Alachua County through our We Care Physician Referral Network program, a community-based initiative that coordinates volunteer physicians, dentists, hospitals and ancillary providers to meet the medical and dental needs of uninsured and underserved residents in the area.
The ACMS advocates for our physician membership through legislative resolutions proposed at the annual FMA meetings – where initiatives are discussed, vetted and voted on before moving forward for proposal to the Florida Legislature and Senate. We encourage an active participation in organized medicine and the future of the medical profession.
